Ping (ICMP) monitoring

Is the host reachable at all

PageWarden tests raw host reachability over ICMP, with no port and no HTTP. It separates a host being down from a service being down, and it is loss-aware. Ping runs from the prober regions. On Starter and up.

What it checks

Reachability, not a service

Ping sends ICMP echoes and watches for replies, so it answers a different question than an HTTP or port check: is the host itself reachable.

Useful for devices and servers that expose no TCP service, where a website check has nothing to hit.

Plain ICMP echo, no HTTP required

Loss-aware

Up, degraded, or down on packet loss

All replies is up, partial packet loss is degraded, and no replies is down. You see a network getting shaky before it fails outright.

Ping runs from the prober regions, so a regional network problem shows where it is happening.
